The simplicity of Google Chrome is somewhat scary! Well, time will tell if the minimalistic approach taken by Google actually pays off in longer run. Though I believe it is a brave out-of-box thinking done by Google and they need to be commended to bring out a new model of Operating System.

On 19th Nov 2009, Google announced that they are making Chrome OS an open source project and are looking forward to work with Google developers. The actual launch of Chrome OS is still a year away but you can check out the above screen-shot to see the current version of Chrome OS which you can just think of an enhanced version of a browser. Actually Chrome OS is based on their Chrome Browser.

Google claims, Chrome OS is all about three things Web (Internet), Security and Speed.

Web: All apps are web apps. The entire experience takes place within the browser and there are no conventional desktop applications. This means users do not have to deal with installing, managing and updating programs.

Security: Since all apps live within the browser, there are significant benefits to security. Unlike traditional operating systems, Chrome OS doesn’t trust the applications you run. Each app is contained within a security sandbox making it harder for malware and viruses to infect your computer. Furthermore, Chrome OS barely trusts itself. Every time you restart your computer the operating system verifies the integrity of its code. If your system has been compromised, it is designed to fix itself with a reboot.

Speed: Google claims that they are obsessed with speed. They are taking out every unnecessary process, optimizing many operations and running everything possible in parallel. This means user can go from turning on the computer to surfing the web in a few seconds.
